Hi everybody. I own two ULN-8, attached to two separated Macs. I would like to use .cnsl files
of the settings I make on the box A with the box B.
The problem is: when loaded with box B, the .cnsl file created with box A shows only channels mapped over an "OFFLINE" box A.
I thought I could be able to do the same remapping that occurs when I load a template (remember the "remapping" window that
opens every time you load a template?), but I didn't find a way to do it. Any idea? Thanks in advance for your answers.

But how does that solve the Problem, that the different Units have different serial numbers and so the Settings aren't directly usable with the other unit.
The channels in the mixer are assigned to the specific unit.

I never heard of or saw a remap dialog..
Only the use box state / use console state, but I guess that's not what you mean, or?
Or is that something ULN specific? (I only have two 2882s)

You can always map the setting from one box to another -- this is not prevented in any way.
That being said, there is a complication -- if the Console file has data for a box, then that data will be used for the box and it will not participate in remapping.
If the console file does not have data for a specific box then one of two things will happen:
If there is data for one box in the file and there is one piece of MIO hardware connected to your computer, MIO Console will automatically map the data from the file to the hardware.
If there is data for more than one box in the file, or if there is more than one piece of MIO hardware connected to your computer, then you will get the box remapping dialog, so you can control which data gets mapped to which box.
If the console file contains data for the box that is attached to your computer, then that data will automatically be mapped to your box, and you won't have the opportunity to map any other box data to your hardware.
So, if you are sharing with your friend (or just have multiple boxes that you use at different times), you must ensure that your box is not included in the file that your friend is using.
For example, if your box is #100, and your friend's box is #200, and your friend sends you a file with just #200 in it, and you open the file with your box attached to the computer, then the #200 data will automatically be mapped to your box #100.
If, on the other hand, you open the file without your box attached, you will get a console with an offline tab for #200. When you attach your box, you will get an additional tab for #100, and the #200 box will remain offline.
If the console file has data for box #100 and box #200, your box (#100) will always get the data for box #100, and the #200 will show up as an offline box.
So, if you are not getting the mapping dialog, or if (in the case of one box attached to your machine) the data is not auto mapped, follow the following steps:
1 ) Disconnect all the boxes from your computer
2 ) Open the file
3 ) Make sure the file just has data for your friend's box.
- In particular, make sure there is no offline tab for your box
4 ) If there is data for any other box than the one(s) you want to map from, use the "forget offline box and remove from mixer" menu command from the popup menu for the tabs corresponding to the box(es) that are in the file, but don't have data that you want.
5 ) Save this file (perhaps with a different name)
6 ) QUIT THE CONSOLE
7 ) Attach your box to the computer
8 ) Drag the file you saved to the MIO Console Icon.
After this, the data will either be auto mapped, or you will get the mapping dialog so that you can do the mapping (depending on how many boxes are in the file and how many are attached to the computer).
You can share between people with different boxes without having to go through all that as long as you ensure that there are no offline tabs in MIO Console when you save the file.
As long as your file only has your box(es) and your friend's file only has their boxes, you will always be able to map, as long your boxes are online when you open the file and there are no offline tabs in your console. If you allow offline tabs to hang around then they can keep you from being able to map.
I know that this is a bit more complex than folks would like; we will be able to simplify it in the future. But if you follow the instructions above, you will always be able to map from one box to another.
Best regards,
B.J. Buchalter

The Metric Halo support - the best on earth, in case someone didn't know - at least solved my issue. In a nutshell, B.J.'s procedure was essentially correct, but it is mandatory to leave the MIO console running while dragging the .cnsl file on the console's icon. Do not close the console, and everything will go fine. Thank you again, B.J. and Jon Stern.
