Mono sum from the monitor controller? [message #86205] Mon, 08 June 2015 10:49 Go to next message

Hi

I'm finding that I don't seem to be able to get a summed output from the monitor controller - ie to feed a mono speaker from my main stereo source. If I select a mono output it just takes the left side of any stereo source, rather than a sum of left and right. The way I'm trying to dot his at the moment is using a separate mono master bus as a source for the monitor controller, but it still seems to just be taking the left side and it means that I have to switch both source and destination, which is clumsy. It would be useful if you could 'mono' your stereo pairs of speakers with a dedicated button on the controller panel, rather than using the above method too.

Is there a means of doing this that I'm not able to find?

Thanks very much for any help

Jack

I would also like this option, but managed a way around it.

Here's how to do it (in a stereo set-up, I have a sub so use LCR, in that case it's all the same only you change stereo to LCR or whatever you use..) :

Create two stereo busses, one you name stereo and the other mono. Then add them both to the monitor controller (at the bottom of the channel).
Remove the master channel from the Monitor Controller (the channel you were using as a source in the Monitor Control).
Send that channel to stereo and also create a send to mono as an insert.
Then add a graph insert on the mono bus with a summer a volume control (-6db).

Now you have a source option in the Monitor Control to choose mono or stereo.

I also own an ShuttleXpress and assigned a shortcut to the source select (Edit - Edit Key Commands), so I actually have a mono and stereo button on my desk..
You could also assign it to a button on the keyboard and put a sticker on it...

Here's a screenshot to show this set-up.
Cheers

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I use two main monitors and an Avantone, because mono is fun.

I send the main stereo speakers through the Monitor L and R, and then I set a stereo output to Analog 1 & 2. I then plug one cable from Analog 1 to my Avantone, select the Analog output, hit the Mono button and boom.

This works for me, but as I said, not sure if it is what you're looking for.

Thanks for replying. I'm no longer using the LIO. I'm sure someone else will find that info useful.
