Hi all,
Been using MH products for about the last year at a live performance space. We record each show using two ULN-8s linked together. Here's the setup:
newest iMac running 10.13.4
Two ULN-8s linked via firewire and BNC
Top ULN-8 (master) firewire converted to thunderbolt to iMac
I'm having 3 issues that I just can't seem to figure out. Hoping the community can help.
1. Seems like it should be simple, but I can't monitor any audio coming from the iMac played on a media player (iTunes, web browser, etc.) to play through the ULN-8. I open up system preferences and select the unit I have designated as the master ULN-8, and I don't see any signal on the unit or in MIO. The strange thing is that when I select the slave unit, I DO see signal on that slave, second unit, but still cannot get playback through the system. I used to be able to get playback by just selecting the hardware in system preferences, but at some point it stopped working and I don't know why.
2. I'm having a new issue with clocking. Previously, I set the first ULN-8 to be the internal clock, then clicked on the tab for the second unit and select (WC 44.1). That had been working. Now, when I click back to the first tab and then cycle back to the second tab, the clock setting reverts back to "internal" for the second unit. It seems to not want to stay slaved.
3. Ever since upgrading from a MacBook Air to the new iMac, I've lost monitoring from the second unit altogether. Input signal works fine and I can record on the second set of 8 channels, but I cannot hear them. How do I route the outputs of the second unit to monitor through the first unit?

For your questions:
1. Do you have a DAW strip setup on the Master ULN-8?
2. This should be working fine
3. You could never route audio directly between units over firewire - you either needed a digital audio link (like AES) or you needed to mix on your host and send back out.
For this application (multibox mixing/monitoring) I would recommend updating both units to 3d and connecting to the computer via Ethernet/MHLink. This will dramatically simplify usage and will automatically support mixing all the channels from your boxes in the HW.
