Hi I'm Intrested in ULN8 but I've a question: I've a new macbook pro 13" with 1 FW and 1 Thunderbolt port.
I would use uln8 in live situation. In the same situation I might have to record from digital mixer (like digidesign or yamaha) via firewire.
Can I connect to the same computer uln8 via thunderbolt and mixer via firewire?
If yes can I record via firewire the multitrack audio stream?

my best regards
Paolone

You may connect the ULN-8 to a Thunderbolt port by using a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter. Please see http://mhsecure.com/metric_halo/products/thunderbolt.html for more details.

This would leave your Firewire port open for other uses.

this seems like a solution for me as well. I will noy buy a Mac again with there dismall lack of ROI. Yet for a lap top for mio Mac Pro is hard to beat. And for me the long term goal is to use PC industrial computers for all dsp and DAWs.The ULN8 is set up nicely for that perpose. Linux is the past <> future of all pro anything. All others cant help cleaning out the cookie jar full time LOL. YOUR Twisted Evil

Hello. I am the proud new parent of a ULN-2, and this little box is awesome. Very Happy

Will the TB -> FW connector continue to allow the ULN-2 to be bus powered? Forgive the newbie question if this is commonly known, however I have read quite a bit on the Apple site about devices that were previously bus powered through FW ports, that no longer work (via bus power) through a TB -> FW dongle. Shocked

Would love to trade in the old MBP for a new one, however don't want to lose my ability to bus power the ULN-2.

Cheers.

Rich

No -- unfortunately the TB->FW adapter does not provide enough bus power to power the ULN-2 or 2882. Thunderbolt provides less power than motherboard FW did, and the TB controller and FW controller use some of that limited power budget.

The TB->FW adapter provides around 7W of bus-power for FireWire devices and that is not enough to power the MIOs.

Sorry.
