I do have a question about outputs;
I do have 2 ULN 8 boxes, one is the slave so all audio is monitored via the master.
I use to disconnect my monitors while tracking and connect output 1&2 from the master to a separate headphone amp with 6 cue lines.
Both boxes have the +DSP license but the slave box's dsp is not really used ( maybe a compressor on tracking )
So now I have this idea to send a headphone mix back from the master to the slave, to do some sub mixing (with the dsp of the slave box) for the headphone output to the band.
So far no problem.
But then I thought, why not set the monitor controller of the master to cans ( because I don't have/need monitors on location recordings of course ), listen to the tracking on the master box's headphone output,
and meanwhile send the sub mixed output via 1&2 of the slave box to the separate headphone amp.
I found, this is not possible, I managed to send signal to the headphone output of the slave box but that's just one extra headphone line.
But on the master bus of the slave box, output analog 1&2 are grayed out.
Am I missing something here, why can't I use the fysical output analog 1&2 of the slave box ?
I thought it was something with the monitor control, so I also send the slave bus to the MC, but that didn't give me signal too.
So do I want the impossible or do I overlook a thing or two ?
ps; Tracking of the 8 slave box pre amps is done via 8 digitals to the master box , hence no aggregate device.

If an output is not available to you in a menu, that means that it is being used already. If you hover the mouse over the source name in the assignment menu you will see a pop-up that tells you where it is being used.
There are a number of issues in the file you sent:
Box 842
- Your Digital inputs are not routed to FireWire, so they are not visible by your DAW. I've assigned them to FW9-16.
- You have Digital 1/2 assigned twice in the mixer, so I deleted the stereo strip.
- I assigned the output of the Main 842 bus to the Monitor Controller and multed it to Digital out 1/2 to send to box 843.
- I deleted the DAW channel, as it is unnecessary to loop through the DAW for the monitoring you described.
Box 843
- Your Analog inputs are not routed anywhere, I routed them to Digital 1-8 to send to box 842.
- Your Digital inputs are not necessary so I deleted them.
- I created a submix for the digital input from box 842; if you assign that input to the main mix you will be double monitoring box 843's inputs and get phase issues.
The submix is assigned to the Monitor Controller, as well as sent to Analog outputs 1/2 to feed your headphone box. Alternatively, you could assign the Sub 843 bus to all of your Analog outputs and feed the headphones directly from the ULN-8 since the analog outs have enough current to drive headphones directly.
In summary:
- All 16 inputs are monitored on box 842 via the Monitor Controller and are sent to the computer.
- The mix for 842 is sent to box 843
- There are two sources in the Monitor Controller for box 843: Main, which is the 8 analog inputs on that box and Sub which is the 16 channel submix of both boxes. These may be selected in the Monitor Controller and feed the headphones on that box.
