I just picked up a used 2882+DSP box today. It's playing nice with my OS (10.7), the MBP is bus-powering it, and Logic is routing everything through it properly. However, for the life of me, I can't seem to get the Monitor Controller to kick in. No matter what I do, the dial in the UI is greyed out. The tutorial video clearly shows a "Monitor R/L" option in the config dropdown, but I don't have that option (nor do I know if that's why my option is greyed out!). The levels from this MIO box are LOUD, and I'm looking for a way to temper the dbs without getting some kind of pad before the monitors.

Also, I didn't realize that one of my analog outs would be taken up by monitors. Normally I run 8 outs into a Folcrom, then back into the DAW. Now I only have six outs to play with! Would a workaround be to link up my old Saffire 40 and monitor through that?

Is this a 2d Expanded box, or is it a legacy?

Monitor Controller only works on 2d Expanded. Sounds like you have a legacy box (that does not have the 2d Upgrade in it)...

You could use the headphone out (which is single-ended) to drive your monitors. Or you could use another converter via AES/SPDIF or ADAT (or TOSLINK if you have 2d Expanded).

If it is a 2d Expanded, then either use one of the Templates that includes "with Monitor Control" in the name, or in the Monitor Control window, make sure you configure the Monitor Controller (click the configure button) and add the output path(s) you want. This is covered well in the user manual, which you can get to from the Help Menu (page 189 of the manual).

Thanks for the reply!

I did opt for the template "with Monitor Control" and I was still unable to access the MC's scroll wheel.

In lieu of using the monitor controller, are there options within the software to allow for low-level monitoring?

Probably best for you to open a support ticket to get help with this (http://www.mhsecure.com/support). There are lots of ways to skin this cat. But how you do it depends on if you have a legacy box or 2d Expanded.

Besides opening the unit, is there another way of determining if it's a legacy or expanded?

The Monitor Controller can certainly mute the outputs, but the scroll wheel remains greyed out. And in the MIO Console, Analog 1/2 are not accessible, as (I assume) the MC has taken over that routing (?).
