Hello!

I want to use my external preamps for color and more gain with my 2882.

Can I bypass the 2882's internal pres, and how do I do that?
Will it be the same wether I use the XLR inputs or the 1/4" ones?
It's a 2D 2882 and I have a 3D card on its way.

Thanks in advance

There is no way to bypass the in-amp that is used as the line receiver and as the preamp. However, setting it to Mic and leaving the trim disables the gain.

Switching it to Line +4 disables the gain and enables the pad. Line -10 enables the pad and adds a little bit of gain in the receiver to make the Line -10 level match that of the Line +4 Level (it is about 12 dB of gain).

At the end of the day, using Line +4 on the 2882 is pretty common for interfacing with external preamps, and it works well.

The XLR and 1/4" inputs are the same (just the cable connection is different).

Enjoy your 3d upgrade!

Thank you!
So I connect an external preamp to one channel and I set this channel to Line +4,
it won't be much difference sound wise wether the gain is set to -2, 0dB or a few dBs (let say +10)
as the signal is still going through the same circuitry ... I don't necessary need to set it to 0dB?

Right - that's correct. You can use the analog gain in the 2882 as a trim.

If you really want to be able to use a MIO without passing through our preamp circuit, you'll need to add a ULN-2 or a LIO-8/ULN-8 to your system - those all support fully bypassing the preamp circuits (and the LIO-8 doesn't even have preamps).

Ok that's all I needed to know.
I might add a LIO-8 when funds allow
Thanks very much!
