Hi,

this problem occurred out of the blue, and seems to intersect with problems with Pro Tools, and what not, I don't even know anymore at this point.

I have ULN-2 w 2D. MIO Console 5.6.08
Clock source: internal

Normally the MH/MIO just adapts to the sample rate of the session, but once in a while out of the blue, it flips out and changes the sample rate of the session.
This happened now again, but I tried to get around it. MIO constantly switches the sample rate back to 44.1kHz though. I tried following tips from a previous thread here, none of it works.
To try to lure MH/MIO, I created a new project in 48kHz. Suddenly it stayed in 48kHz, but then Pro Tools was so slow it's unusable, and suddenly doesn't playback anymore.
Then I try Ableton Live, and there MH/MIO suddenly switches back to 44.1kHz again, and won't allow me to select 48kHz either in MIO or in Ableton.
I've restarted about 20 times at this point, and have also turned off the MH for a while and turned it back on. Nada.

This is not usually a problem, it comes up ones in a while. It seems like a bug? Or what am I missing? The internet seems to suggest so, but I can't find a solution that helps in my case. Hope you can help. Thanks.

The MIO will not change the sample rate on its own (neither the hardware nor MIOConsole).

It will only change the sample rate if you manually changed it.

That said, all CoreAudio hosts have the capability of changing the sample rate, and most DAWs will automatically set the sample rate back to what they think the Sample Rate ought to be if they detect that it has changed.

It sounds to me like you have multiple CoreAudio hosts running at the same time and that they are fighting over the sample rate.

If you are *just* running Pro Tools, do you encounter this issue?

When you say 'just' PT, do you mean without using MIO+MH? When I first did that I got these error messages:
' Could not create the TCE plug-in's factory default file because the plug-in doesn't support the current sample rate'
and then 'could not create a new document because ASsertion in '/Volumes/Development/code/203409/ProTools/DFW/views/umenu.m acos.mm ", line 1639.'

When I did it again without MIO+MH and pressed 'n' I got through to the create/select project window, and when opening the existing 48kHz project it opened with normal speed audio.

More info:

Usually, I switch between using MIO+MH (+ UAD2 Satellite) and the ZOOM H6 as interface, because I use the latter to record narration for these projects. However I make sure to set up the project in 48kHz when I start working with PT+MH+MIO, and have the ZoomH6 set in 48kHz.

Plugging the MH back in, instead of internal clock I switched to ADAT 44.1/48, thinking that was my mistake. But also now MIO won't allow me to switch to 44.1 manually.
I took the UAD2 Satellite out of the chain to make sure it's not causing a strain, but it's no difference I think.

Now, when trying to start up the existing project in 48kHZ I get this error message:
'The current playback engine does not support a sample rate of 48 kHz' when trying to start up a previous project in 48kHz.
After which it kindly transforms all the audio in the project.

When trying to start PT fresh via the icon, with MH+MIO, I also get:
' Could not create the TCE plug-in's factory default file because the plug-in doesn't support the current sample rate'
and then 'could not create a new document because ASsertion in '/Volumes/Development/code/203409/ProTools/DFW/views/umenu.m acos.mm ", line 1639.'

I think I got these before, also seemingly out of the blue. A friend helped me out but I don't remember how. It's enough of a major p.i.t.a. that I wish I understood what's going on below the hood.

After all the above I tried once more to start up PT fresh, while pressing 'n'. Now I get in, and PT suggests 48kHz for a new project, I'm able to create it - meanwhile, MIO remains in 44.1kHZ !! And is not able to be changed manually.

Hope this gives a better picture. Thanks for your help

This is the problem. If you have the clock source set an external source (ADAT in this case), the clock will be determined by what ever the external device is providing, or the default fallback if the external device is not providing clock.

If you want to be able to control the sample rate from the computer, the MIO's clock must be set to internal.

But the problem came up when I was still set to internal clock (see my first post).

So I switched the clock back to internal again today, sr is still set at 44.1 in MIO, doesn't want to be changed. Then I tried again starting up my 48kHz project.

First time I did it without the MH plugged in, and MIO actually changed the clock source back to ADAT (littt, without me touching it) while the PT project was starting up.

The second time I started it up with the MH plugged in, and this time the clock stayed in internal, and (miraculously) the sample rate switched to 48kHz when starting up the project!

Not much of a comfort though, because I'm still not understanding any logics behind this problem, and thus no way to prevent this from happening again. Any thoughts still?
I can't afford to lose so much worktime and miss deadlines because of a bug :-/

Also I cheered too soon, because now suddenly there is no monitoring sound, no monitor signal coming into MIO, although there's output signal showing on the MH and on Analog 1/2 in MIO.

This is the 2nd problem that pops up for me randomly once in a while with MIO+MH+PT.

Without doubt my knowledge of this particular realm of technology is too limited to deal with such events, and I'm deff planning in time to study them now. Anyway, thanks for your help, if you have any thoughts on the above I'd be thankful
