Hello,
My question is about 2d audio mixer.
I know it's in 80 bits, but can it clip on the way of the signal ?
Example :
I have a digital full-scale stereo input (like a CD player on a s/pdif input for example).
If I set 20 dB of digital gain on the trim of that stereo strip and -20dB on the stereo monitoring, is it equivalent to 0dB everywhere ?
Or will the strip clip before the output ?
Thanks !
And good luck everybody for that hard period we're in...
Matthieu

Hello,
Well I did some tests and it seems to work perfectly.
I put +10dB on a Channel Strip and +10 dB on the fader on a full-range signal (already at about 0dBFS).
All is red
But since my output is at -23 dBFS I can't hear no clipping.
That confirms the theory I saw on differents forums, about the 80 fixed bits audio engine... it has a huge "numeric" headroom before clipping.

Hello Perfect Record,
Well I only attenuate with the Monitor Control, and I really don't hear any distortion.
I think the conversion DA is after the numerical monitor control, and so there is no problem.
Be careful : it's possible with my 2882, but I think that with the ULN soudcards it's different : the monitor control is analog, and so it wouldn't work.
