Please forgive me if I overlooked something obvious. I've read the manual and searched the forum trying to trouble shoot a simple SCP setup (sending audio to AUM similar to Geert's wonderful YouTube video) and I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

AUM does not show the Lio as an option for inputs. In Mio console I've double checked that the discovery settings never ignore USB. I've tried two cables that have worked reliably for other tasks. What else could I be doing wrong? The AUM manual doesn't mention any need to select audio interfaces and my experience on the iPad (2018 iPad Pro) with other class compliant interfaces is that they are automatically detected and mounted.

Besides a plea for help, I have two other questions: Is there a way in MioConsole to verify something is connected via USB? Does anyone know of an iOS utility that shows what's connected to USB (like in MacOS system info)?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

The Discovery setting is for when you connect both USB and MHLink to the computer running MIOConsole. If you will connect both to that computer, you need to have it set to Always so that USB and MHLink don't fight each other in the console.

If you are using the iPad Pro, you will need the Apple Camera connection kit to connect the MIO (even if you have the iPad Pro with USB-C). For some reason the iPad Pro does not recognize the MIO as a USB device via USB-C to USB-C. So you use the USB-C to USB-A (socket) adapter on the iPad Pro (or the Lightning to USB-A adapter if the iPad has Lightning) and then you plug the USB-A to USB-C cable between the adapter and the MIO, and then the MIO should be recognized as a USB Audio and MIDI device on the iPad.

I suspect that the problem is that you are using a USB-C to USB-C cable...

If MIO Console is connected to the MIO over MHLink, the status of the USB connection is shown in the box info panel for the box in the System Information Panel of the mixer. There is an item that looks like USB: x (where x will be either U for unconnected or C for connected). The C indicates that the device is connected to a host over USB.

The other way you can determine if the USB connection is active is by disconnecting the MHLink entirely. Then if nothing is connected via USB, the Front Panel Computer (or Firewire if the box has an older front panel) LED will be off. If you connect USB and the unit connects to the host, then the LED will turn on. If the box is connected via MHLink the light will also be on, so having the MHLink connection makes it difficult to determine if the USB is connected via the front panel.

I don't know about iOS based utilities to show USB connection status...

Thanks so much, BJ. The Lio is a truly great device and you support to match.

I was using usb-c to usb-c originally, but I think in my confusion about how it works I also turned the "ignore usb" to never. After your message I used a USB hub with the usb-c to usb-a cable that shipped with the 3D upgrade, made sure "always ignore USB" was selected and, bada-bing-bada-boom, I'm processing audio on the iPad. Fantastic. I can't wait to get my head around all the ways I can use this.

FWIW, the USB hub is 3rd party (not the camera connection kit), so people should know that's an option.

Glad to hear that it is working for you!

Yeah -- sorry - should have mentioned that. Any USB-C to USB-A socket adapter will work; the Apple Adapter, a third-party adapter, or a USB-C hub. With a powered Hub, I think you can also power/charge the iPad while using the MIO (and other devices).
