ULN-2 3d loses connection to MIO Console [message #88354] Sat, 17 September 2022 20:52 Go to next message

I have submitted this numerous times using the bug report feature but never get any response.

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019)
macOS Monterey version 12.1
MIO Console v.pb12-50
MHLink driver 2.1.02
firmware v.6.0.168

connection is ULN-2 (3d) ----> ethernet cable ---> ethernet/Thunderbolt 2 adapter ---> Thunderbolt 2/3 adapter ---> Mac

My ULN-2 starts up fine and talks to MIO Console fine. But every single day, once the computer has been idle for a while and goes to sleep, when I wake it back up the inputs on the MIO console have turned yellow indicating it has lost connection to the hardware ULN-2. I then have to physically unplug the ULN-2 power cable (which is a huge pain) to power cycle it in order to get MIO Console to recognize it and communicate again. Usually that works, though occasionally I'll have to fully restart the Mac (and power cycle the ULN-2) to reestablish the connection.

Is there any solution for this?

Anyone else have this experience?

This has been happening for years, so not limited to above software versions.

You can add a switch / push button and connect it to the digital pins for getting 1/0 (on/off) request.

You can run the motor loop until it receive the off command from the switch. Try with "while loop" or "do while loop".

Uh. No. There is no programmable or digital pin access to reboot the unit, other than the command in MIOConsole, but that won't work if the unit is offline.

dave999z: Two things:

1) Have you opened a support ticket ( https://mhsecure.com/support ) in addition to filing bug reports?
2) Until we figure out how to get this sorted, consider putting the ULN-2 power supply on a switched circuit (e.g. a power strip that you have easy access to the power strip) to allow you to cycle power with less difficulties.

Thanks. I will open a support ticket.

Dedicating a power strip to the ULN-2 is not convenient either. (It's on the same UPS as my Mac, and I don't want to cycle my Mac.)

Add an additional power strip just for the MIO (between the UPS and the MIO). I'm not saying this is the solution to the fundamental issue. But it will make your life easier until the fundamental issue is resolved.

How can I add an additional power strip?

Get an AC Power Strip with a switch (e.g. from a hardware store). Plug the strip into your wall power. Plug the MIO power supply into the strip. Arrange the strip so that switch is easily accessible. This will allow you to cycle power on the unit without having to go behind the rack. This can also be done with a rack-mountable power strip/distribution box that has a front-mounted power switch.
