Does this mean that you can record straight to that external hard disk? as well as onto a computer?

The ULN-2 is not a standalone recorder; the recording is done by the computer.

Ah ok, just checking that would of been cool tho as a backup recording incase your laptop spontaneously combusts at the gig!
So what then, may i ask, is the point of that?, is it to get another firewire device (i.e. hardrive) connected to y our macbook seem as though your are using your only one with the MIO unit?

and your mac would just pick it up normally as another firewire device?
Ok great, SO could i theoretically attach a UAD satellite into that second port and use it for plugins and DSP as normal? that is the one concern i have about not having an extra firewire port and using a friewire interface is that i will not be able to use the UAD platform..

bump on the question above...
I am wondering if I can connect a UAD sattelite to one of the firewire points in the back of the uln-2? is that the best way to set this up on my mbp with only 1 firewire port?

We cannot guarantee the performance of DSP processors from other manufacturers on the same FW bus as our products. It should work, as long as the bus can support the necessary throughput for the devices. We are able to run three of our interfaces on a single bus at 44.1-48kHz, and two on a bus at 88.2-192kHz.

Ok sure I understand, but has anyone here actually run a UAD and a Metric Halo interface through the same firewire port> there must be someone?
It s quite an important consideration as I am considering purchasing a UAD satellite for my MBP but obviously I only have firewire port and one display/thunderbolt port which i use for my external 24" monitor...
