Hello guys
I got my 2nd ULN-8 now. Both units appear in MIO, connected via Firewire.
MY CURRENT SETUP
ULN-8 #1:
- 8 Mic Ins used by mics
- 4 analog Line Outs used for monitoring
ULN-8 #2:
- All 16 analog I/O's used by 4 hardware bus compressors (kind a Michael Brauer's «Brauerizing» concept)
- 3 Reverb units connected via AES/ABU
THE GOALS
- Connecting my outboard gear (4 hardware stereo compressors and 3 reverbs) on the buses within MIO mixer, in order to use them across the two ULN-8 units.
- Monitoring of the bus compressors and reverbs while recording in the MIO, (not DAW coz of latency). Example: While recording a vocal via ULN-8 #1, I want to listen to its reverb on my bus on ULN-8 #2.
- As less patching & changing MIO settings as possible. I'd like to set it up once and have no tech. worries any more. I wanna make my music before I die, don't wanna waste my energy & time by changing configurations everyday
- Max. recording of audio 2 signals at once (stereo guitar or piano)
I've watched the video "Multibox Mixing and Monitoring with v.5" on the tutorial page: As I understand, I got to connect 2 units to each other via digital I/O, in order to use all the channells in the MIO mixer accross the ULN units (Firewire connectionis not enough, it helps only in DAW to gather the chanells, as I understand). OK, I am gonna connect my two ULN-8 devices via AES/EBU cable, but...
THE ISSUE
When using (vasting) my 4 digital stereo channels by connectiong the ULNs, I am not able anymore to connect my digital reverbs via AES/EBU to my ULN-8 #2. The AES/EBU I/O's of my both ULN units are then occupied.
What to do now?
How to connect the reverbs?
SOLUTION(s)
The only scenario currently coming to my mind: Connecting both the ULN devices to each other with only 2 AES/EBU channels for the monitoring purpose while tracking. The rest (6 AES/EBU channels) on my ULN-8 #2 using for the hardware 3 stereo reverbs. Is this gonna work? Any better scenario?
Maybe:
- Patching and changing configuration between recording and mixing?
- Giving up the zero latency monitoring through the compressors & reverbs?
- Buying another ULN device? Which one?
- XY?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
