I just got an Akai Z8 sampler and plan to connect it digitally with my LIO8. On the Z8, I can choose between consumer and pro digital output "type" for the spdif output. Does this mean I can go spdif to aes on the LIO without conversion? But what about from the LIO8 back into the sampler? I can get an spdif 3d edge card and just stay with "consumer" spdif on the Z8 for both in and out. Alternatively could also get some spdif to AES impedance adapter unit.
Anyway this has me really confused. Would it be better to get an spdif/aes converter or straight spdif>spdif with an edge card? I'm running my LIO8 at 96Khz and plan to clock the Akai to 96 from it.
Thanks.
