Hi there. Smile

I want to use my old 2882 (no 2d or 3d) with my Mac mini 2018 on Mojave. I understand that I would need the following things:

Firewire 400 to 800 cable
Adapter from Thunderbolt to Firewire
Adapter from Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3

Is there anything else I would need to know or to consider?

I´d be very happy for some hints and tips. Thanks a lot in advance!
Cheers
putte

(And yes, I may make the move to 3d one day, but not for now)

Based on my recent experience using a very early 2882 +DSP with a MacBook Pro 2018 running Mojave you may need to do a fair number of restarts of the MIO, the console software and the computer to get the MIO software happy with the older box. Unplugging the MIO starts the whole process of restarts over again. Interestingly since posting about this on the forum last week I've discovered that a 2012 MBP running Mojave and the same version of the MIO Console is much less problematic. The 2018 machine uses a Thunderbolt dock with a FW port to connect to the MIO while the 2012 machine has built in FW 800 so it's possible that this is related and your choice of FW adaptor may - or may not - have an impact.

You will want to use the following software with your Legacy box:

https://www.mhsecure.com/mio/MIOConsole_v.5.6.12.224.zip

First, install the new version of MIO Console by dragging it into your dock.

Run the 5.4d243_Universal.pkg driver installer.

Boot the box with the power supply.  Connect the box to the computer, launch MIO Console.

From the Utilities menu, choose "Erase All States on Current Box".  If there are any stale boot states that might lead to problems, this will clear them out.

From the Utilities menu, choose "Update Firmware", and choose the 2.2.08 firmware file (from this same download).  (NOTE: Do not install the 2d Firmware on a box without a 2d Card or you will run into problems).

Disconnect firewire and reboot the box fully.

Launch MIO Console and open MIO Console Preferences.  Check "Enable Legacy Box Support" and choose OK.

Quit and relaunch MIO Console.

I hope this is helpful.

I was able to connect my 2882 legacy box to my 2015 mojave macbook pro after seeing this thread.
I would like to know how to do a proper boot state.
I have saved the settings I want to use standalone in Snap shot 1 and holding down the Dim button on boot does not change the settings on the unit.
I am referring to the online manual here.
