Hi everyone,

i was wondering what would be the best way to route a Bricasti into my Digital Performer DAW. AES in/out?

What would be the best way to bus in/out for latency minimization? Would i need to use the MIO console or would it be easily done through Digital Performer only?

TIA

Claude

I am also very interested in this!
I've ordered d25 aes cable for my uln-8, hope I can connected to bricasti m7 and not "spend" my line this by using the AES?

this forum sucks. You never get your questions answered. I've given up even looking here. Good luck to you, I'd like to know the same answer you are looking for. Try Gearslutz they have a lot of traffic on there and I've gotten Metric Halo questions actually answered there.

I'll try and help you if I can. I've routed an Eventide DSP 4500 into Ableton Live. Yes it's done with the ins and outs from the interface just as you would with a mixing board and you assign the sends and returns int he software. You would need to set it up in MIO console as well though once you get that established in MIO console you are done and should be able to do all controlling from Digital performer.

This forum was created in response to requests from customers to provide a forum. There was a vocal group who preferred having a forum over a mailing list, so we built this forum. But it seems like it has not attracted a very large number of participants -- most folks seem to have stuck with the MIO mailing list.

That being said, the forum is not a support resource. We have a support resource. If you need a question answered by our support folks, please open a support ticket at:

https://www.mhsecure.com/support

In addition to this forum, there is the MIO mailing list, which has been around for almost 15 years and has a huge number of subscribers. That is probably the best place to get community responses to questions. You can subscribe to that via our community page:

If you would like to see more activity on this forum, it might help to go there and encourage more folks to come here and participate.

The default routing for the ULN-8/LIO-8 has the the AES I/O routed. So if you have not changed that routing in MIO Console, you can do all the routing from DP (or any host).

For the default routing,

DAW 9/10 -> AES Out 1/2
DAW 11/12 -> AES Out 3/4
DAW 13/14 -> AES Out 5/6
DAW 15/16 -> AES Out 7/8

and

AES In 1/2 -> FW 9/10
AES In 3/4 -> FW 11/12
AES In 5/6 -> FW 13/14
AES In 7/8 -> FW 15/16

So, if you put the Bricasti on AES 1/2 (for both input and output), in DP you would send out to DAW 9/10 and return from FW 9/10.

Of course you would need to ensure that the Bricasti is clocked to the AES input.

If you change the routing in MIO console, you will, of course, need to adapt to that in DP.

Hi guys,

thanks for the answers!

@ bj I have a 2882 which has a XLR AES connection which gives me 1 stereo in/out, but i get the idea, it should work fine with a Bricasti if i ever find 4k$ of loose change!

Best,

Claude

So how does it sound compared to the ULN 8 doing the DAC duties?

Hey just curious how do you like the ULN 8 with the Bricasti vs the ULN 8 on it's own. I was thinking of adding the Grace 905 to my chain but was mostly interested in the upgrade in sound from the DA aspect of things that the Grace would offer (along with some cool other features) I know the Grace was compared favorable to the Bricasti in a review in Stereophile and they list the Bricasti and Grace as Class A+ recommended components in their magazine. The Bricasti is a little more than I would like to spend but was curious if you had anything to say about how it compares to the sound of the ULN 8 alone. I assume you just go AES out of the ULN 8 to the Bricasti then to a preamp or volume control or do you go directly to your amp or powered monitors from the Bricasti?

Thanks, Ryan

Hi Ryan,

the Bricasti is a high-end hardware reverb unit. Not a AD/DA.
