I can't believe this, but after upgrading my OS to El Capitan and installing the latest MIO console I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade the firmware while I was at it.

At a certain time during the "upgrade" process all inputs went into overload and right after that the unit was dead. Only input one has the overload led still burning.... Nothing is possible anymore, no communication with MIO, no standalone functions working, nothing.

Tried firmware upgrade again.. Nothing. Disconnecting from power, holding the mute&dim button while switching it on and so on.. NOTHING seems to help.

I've been in pro audio, making a living for over 20 years. Had dozens of firmware upgrades to all kinds of machinery. But nothing like this ever happened.

So,

From your description, it sounds like MIO Console can still see the box after the firmware upgrade; is that the case?

The "flashing lights" in he first input column is indicative that the box is booted with old firmware; this can either be the safety boot, or it is possible that you installed the legacy firmware onto the box.

If it is the latter (wrong firmware installed), then doing it again would lead to the same result. While I am not saying for sure that this is what happened, it is a good possibility.

Please try updating the firmware again -- and make sure that you use the firmware for 2dCardBoxes:

5_0_45.miofirmware

See if that gets you back to operational.

Thanks for your help and swift response. I probably installed the legacy firmware onto the box I guess. I feared my ULN8 was gone, but after a prolonged powerdown and holding the dim & mute buttons during power on, the entire display turned red and it sprung back to life. Only now could I run the firmware again (2dCardBoxes?? that name got me confused). Anyway it seems to be working again, I notice though the MIO now sees 2 machines: 1 online and 1 offline (2882).

Yeah -- the "2882" is from when the box had the wrong firmware.

You can click the 2882 tab and select "Forget This Offline Box (and Delete From Mixer)" from the menu that pops-up.

Thanks! Support is excellent I see, like the product itself. Feel a bit silly, having upgraded the wrong firmware. Still, I am surprised I could upload alien firmware to my ULN8 to begin with (usually those files are greyed out). Really had me worried there for some moments. Anyway, glad all is well again and thankful for the quick support. It's the first time in six years of owning the unit that I run into a problem, so credit where credit is due.
