Hey guys - my trusty 2882 is currently not working and it's a weird problem.
I upgraded (my hdd died along with a bunch of work - yay!) I was happy on mountain lion but had to go to Sierra..
So my 2882 is powered by the fw bus but isn't showing in core audio. I've also tried hdd on this fw port and they don't mount but provided some power as I can hear the disc spinning.
So I've done every conceivable reset (smc ect) changed cables ect but the point of failure appears to be the physical port - looks like some of the puns may have bent (as it's partially working obviously by providing power)

So I guess the question is can I go via thunderbolt with the appropriate connectors? As far as I can see it will work.

Another case of please please release the 3D card! Smile

If it is offline, then it is not being seen by MIO Console.

If the computer does not see any devices attached to the FW port, it does sound like it is damaged. Usually if this is the case, FireWire will not show up in Apple System Profiler either.

You can use a Thunderbolt to FW adapter and that will give you a functioning Firewire port for the short term...
