Hi Folks

It seems it may be getting to the point where I need to spend some money! Just after some advice. I have been using a ULN-8 since 2009. I'm running Mojave on a 2012 Macbook Pro, which keeps trying to upgrade me to Catalina. I also read that early hardware is not compatible with Catalina! So....it may be time to go for the 3D upgrade to my ULN-8. This is a bit out of the blue and I wasn't really ready for the cost - I only record as a hobby these days so it doesn't bring in much money.

I presume my old Macbook Pro will be fine to work with this, either via USB or MHLink? The Macbook is high spec and still works great today, I don't really have a need to upgrade it.

Also, if I connect the MH unit via the ethernet port, directly, can I still use WIFI to connect to the internet given it's effectively a separate NIC? Just wanting to make sure this should work as expected before I lash out with the dollars.

Cheers and thanks.

It is MIOConsole that is not compatible with Catalina. Catalina required a full rewrite of MIOConsole and that work was done as part of the 3d upgrade. So if you want to upgrade to Catalina, you'll need to upgrade the ULN-8 to 3d. If you don't want to upgrade to 3d, then keep your machine running Mojave.

If your MacBook supports Catalina, then it will work fine for MHLink/USB. The 2012 MBP is fine.

Yes. That works well.

Thanks for clarifying that. It confirms what I was thinking. My options seem to be - do nothing! Or...spend the money LOL. 3D is looking pretty attractive though. Wonder if it will come down in price a bit.
Will the new MIOConsole work with Mojave and with my original version ULN8? If I stay put, am I stuck with not getting any future MIOConsole updates?

The upgrade will not come down in price; in fact it will go up in price as we currently have it on Early Access discount.

If you have any desire to add more units to your system, getting the upgrade for your existing box entitles you to an Early Adopter Discount that is pretty significant.

MIOConsole3d only works with 3d upgraded boxes. The usage model has changed enough (we think for the better - it is easier to use) that it is not really possible to support both the 2d devices in the new console.

There will be no further updates for 2d. If you want to move forward then you'll need to upgrade your unit to 3d.

BJ, I think you've convinced me. Also been chatting with Jon in support. Will do it I reckon.
