I add an extra 8in/outs AES/EBU Edge card to connect my 12 Genelec speakers full digitally for 7.1.4 dolby atoms set up. I am using Inter Macbook pro with MAC OS 12.3, connect the unit via ethernet cable with a gigabyte usb-c adapter.

It works great, but occasionally, the AES/EBU ch 5 and 6 no signal come out.

The Genelec 8340 has the digital signal detection, when it connect correctly, the green led light will show up, if not, the light is blinking red.

I have checked and tested all the cable connections, xlr conncetors, DB25 connectors, swap the DB25 connectors, cross re-routed host channels, double check the monitor sources ,double check the Genelec GLM settings, and even rest the speaker to the factory setting. The problem is still there. when I play back the music through these two channels, the meter is shown inside the MIOconsole3D mixer.

After, I select LIO-8 as the main system ouput device, and did the speaker configuration to test all the channels, only these two channel are silence.

It seems the problem just the digital AES/EBU ch 5/6 themselves.

Is that a bug? or un-correctly setup?

I had a similar problem with my ULN8 and AES 5-6 not outputting. I contacted Metric Halo and they helped me resolve my issue. It may be applicable to yours as well. In short, you might try reseating the Edge card. Mine was installed inside the ULN8 but the similar AES 5-6 issue seemed like too much of a coincidence not to send their response to you. See below.

On the AES, you can first test by connecting the AES output directly back to the AES input if you have DB25 XLR cable.

Connect the male and female ends together, then route signal out of the AES outputs, and look for the meters to come back in on the AES inputs (mute the input strips to avoid a feedback loop). Keep the clock source set to Internal.

If you do not get signal coming back in, try removing and reseating the AES/MIDI and Gasket board cluster. It is possible that a few pins got misaligned. The pins are small and not difficult to install slightly out of alignment.

Btw, Do you mean to removing and reseating the internal AES/EBU board, Or Edge card?

My problem is onboard AES/EBU ch 5 6, not the digital edge card output. It seem not easy to take it off.....

Mine was on board as well. The solution that worked for me was to open the unit and reseat the digital card. I'll PM you a link to the installation video which details how to open the unit (can't post it here for some admin-type reason). It's not difficult, just a little time consuming. Test it though before you close it back up!

It works!!!!!

OMG, that's tricky.

Actually, I found that small multi pins connector dose not quite tight as it should.
I also covered electronic board and components with some tissue, and spray some WD-40 for cleaning the pins, plug in and out the digital board several times, to make sure it well seated.

Thanks man! You really saved my a**

Awesome - glad to hear that worked for you! I wonder if it's a common problem. I didn't realize it until many years after I purchased the ULN8 as I didn't use AES 5-6 until then! Hopefully other people with the same problem will find this thread.

All the best,

Nathan
